Issues and Challenges in Information Security

 Abstract:

The Internet has provided many online services and facilitated finding information and doing transactions. This has been made possible due to the openness of the Internet. At the same time, this very openness has posed vulnerabilities resulting in attacks such as ID theft, denial of service, industrial espionage, and extortion.
The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to connect billions of objects in the next few years, thus potentially creating additional challenging security and privacy issues.
The objective of this talk is to describe some trends affecting information security and discuss the sources of security problems, as well as provide an overview of IoT and its related security issues. Typical IoT applications are presented with focus on autonomous cars. Also, some potential solutions, safeguards, and defenses are offered.
